In this new nationwide tour, Berghaus Ambassador Leo Houlding talks about his life of climbing, the first climb to link three Bugaboo summits in 24hrs and his incredible expedition to summit the most remote mountain in the world, Antarctica’s Spectre.
Leo is well known for pushing the limits of what’s possible. Having conquered mountains and peaks across the world and Leo’s latest expedition aimed to rewrite the rules of Transantarctic exploration.
During his Speaker’s from the Edge Tour, Leo will be exclusively revealing whether those rules were rewritten.
1,000 miles, 200kgs, 65 days, 3 mates, 1 epic expedition.
The expedition brought Leo together with Jean Burgun, a French climber, and Mark Sedon, a Kiwi cameraman, to take on Spectre, one of the most remote peaks in the world. The mission’s three-phase trip broke new ground, with the team climbing a new route on the north face of the mountain and completing the trans-continental journey to the Gothic Range of the Transantarctic Mountains using traditional man-hauling techniques and modern snow-kiting technology.
At Kendal Mountain Festival 2018, he told us: “the truth is, it was the hardest trip I’ve ever done. It was the longest trip I’ve ever done. It was the coldest trip I’ve ever done.”
Having taken on the challenge and had time to reflect, during the tour and on our social channels, Leo will be sharing tales from the expedition, as well as largely-unseen footage which was intimately shot by the explorers and captures their epic 57-day journey unsupported in the extremes of Antarctica.
We guarantee it’s an adventure that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
Leo and Jean before the mighty south pillar of the Spectre. Perhaps the finest unclimbed line on Earth?

Kiting in unison for the last time. The final day of the expedition involved highly technical kiting over a mountain range and down a steep glacier to reach the relative civilisation of the Union Glacier Camp.
