It’s been a bit of a frustrating spring here in Chamonix with extended periods of bad weather cutting short any plans to get up into the mountains. With long days of cloudy, wet and windy weather in the valley I wasn’t much inspired to do anything but stay indoors and drink copious amounts of coffee. So when I got an invite to go cycling for a week in Norway to make some short films about cycling I jumped at the chance for a new adventure. Little did I know that I probably should have taken my skis instead of my bike!
We based ourselves in a beautiful lighthouse on the west coast of Norway just outside a sleepy fishing town called Maloy south of Alesund. From our base we explored the breathtaking coastal roads and mountain passes.
It rained and snowed everyday making for interesting conditions on the bike. In spite of it being below freezing most days, the beauty of the area was motivation enough to get us out on our bike to explore.
Riding in the snow made the trip pretty exciting
The road ahead always lead to somewhere ‘jaw-droppingly’ beautiful
I don’t think I have ever thought of Norway as a destination to go and cycle but after this trip it goes right to the top of my list. There are a couple of rides that we did that definitely go into the top 3 best and most beautiful rides ever! I have to thank James Nord (www.Jamesnord.com) for his photographs on this blog post. I was too tired and cold to let go of the handlebars to take any!
