As we look to tick things off our #Adventurelist for the year, our athletes and staff have got together to come up with a list of our favourite UK trail runs which we’ve put into a cool new infographic below. We’ve tried to cover most type of terrain, from rocky fells with steep climbs to undulating moorland and narrow coastal paths. And with routes in England, Scotland and Wales there’s a good chance there’s a new trail run near you waiting to be explored.
This is the perfect time to take up trail running, as it’s currently huge in the UK – here at Berghaus, we’re surrounded by it! A few weeks back, Steve Birkinshaw ran the Wainwrights, setting a new world record (this inspired the Catbells route that you’ll find on the infographic), and there was also Philippe Gatta’s 2013 attempt on the mind blowing GHT. Plus we’re sponsoring the Trailchase race and the 2014 TrailTeam.
As you’ll know from our previous blogs, many of our athletes share our love for trail running. Some do it as their main sport, some do it for training and some do it simply be outdoors, to clear their minds… Anna Gatta for example is an amazing runner who uses her training to stay injury free. Anna says: “By running almost every day I taught my body to cope with quick recovery for the day after.”
So whether you’re a mountaineer, a climber or a school teacher, you’ll find there’s plenty of both mental and physical benefits of giving trail running a try.
Take a look at our routes and let us know what you think – would these make your favourite trail runs list or do you have other suggestions? Why not map your choices or leave us a comment on Facebook.
